Daylight found us sitting off a creek draining from the wetlands. Bit early for the tide push, so it was lesson time, lesson for those new to bait casters. I have been hunting barra for some years but, listening to Micky, I wished someone had given me such excellent instruction & invaluable tips early on.

We headed up the densely wooded stream in search of likely spots. The loud barra boofs were music to my ears. Micky pulled up to his favourite tree and we tied up in anticipation. After an hour later we all had experienced a session that I will remember for ever. Great fun had by all!

There followed an epic session that saw all but one of us with a prized metre barra. That unlucky angler dropped 04 big jumpers, all metre plus, in increasing inventive style. Patient tutoring & encouragement from Micky finally saw him land a 98cm teaser: pretty fitting combination of a reward for effort from the fishing Gods and a slap under the ear for inattention.

A fantastic day’s fishing & we even let the big ones live to tell the tail of their visit on that majestic day. I will definitely be back to fish with Micky and learn from his extensive knowledge of the northern territory waterways.
